Steel Piling Protection Solution.

The steel pilings supporting a bridge over the River Thames were exposed to severe environmental stressors, resulting in advanced corrosion and erosion. To prevent further structural damage, a highly durable protective solution was essential. The client required a coating that could be applied and cured underwater, ensuring the pilings remained protected, stable, and resistant to future degradation.

Application Overview of  Resimac’s Steel Piling Protection Solution.

The repair operation was carried out from floating pontoons, enabling efficient access to steel pilings exposed to both air and the tidal splash zone. Surface preparation involved handheld needle guns to remove loose corrosion and marine growth, creating a roughened profile to ensure strong coating adhesion. To safeguard the surrounding environment, a debris mesh was installed to capture particulates and maintain water quality. Final cleaning with fresh water eliminated residual contaminants.

Protective Coating Application on Steel Pilings.

Resimac 208 Ceramic UW was applied in two uniform coats, each at 1mm thickness, using a plastic applicator. This advanced underwater-curing coating established a robust barrier against corrosion and erosion. Its exceptional performance was particularly vital below the waterline, where exposure to harsh conditions demanded superior, long-lasting protection for the structural integrity of the pilings.
