Slurry: A fluid mixture of solid particles suspended in a liquid (typically water), which can be settling or non-settling depending on particle size and concentration.

Fines: Very small solid particles that contribute significantly to the slurry’s rheology (flow behaviour), often leading to highly viscous flows at high concentrations. The presence of fines can also impact the forces between particles and the overall suspension stability.

Chemicals: Various chemicals are often added to modify the slurry properties, such as dispersants to reduce viscosity, flocculants to aid separation, or other process chemicals (e.g., in flotation). These chemicals can introduce corrosive properties, demanding corrosion-resistant materials for equipment.

High-Velocity Particles: High flow velocities are often necessary in pipelines to prevent solid particles from settling and accumulating on the pipe bottom. This high velocity, combined with hard or angular solid particles, is the primary cause of abrasive wear on internal pipe walls, pump casings, and other components.
